Hampshire County Cemetery Survey Public Meeting

19 E Main St, Romney, WV 26757

TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2023 AT 7 PM

It will be held in the 2nd Floor Courtroom in Romney (by the stoplight).. Do you have information about a cemetery that might not be listed on the current county cemetery survey? We are requesting help locating as many cemeteries as possible.
"The main purpose of this survey is to protect our cemeteries from destruction during land development or building. Unless we can list a cemetery on our Assessor's website the county may grant a permit for building or development that would destroy a cemetery. Cemeteries are not only a family's treasure; they are part of our communal heritage. Even what were once church cemeteries are in danger of disappearing or severe damage.
This page lists the cemeteries found in the first survey with a link to the Historic Site Inventory Form: https://historichampshire.org/cems/cems-shpo.htm.
And they are on the State Historic Preservation Office Interactive Map: https://mapwv.gov/shpo/viewer/index.html with a link to the Property Viewer Map showing tax map parcel with ownership information like our County Assessor's Map.
